The word
“terrier” comes from the Latin word “terra,” which means earth.Terrier is also the modern French term for
"burrow". The term terrier was given to these tough little
dogs because they were particularly skilled in tracking small game both over
and under the ground.
Terriers are usually
a small to medium size dog that is often described as feisty, funny, energetic,
and lively.Even the smallest terriers
are ready to take on any opponents (a necessary attribute when hunting and
killing vermin) but prefer human companionship. Many of these terriers have the speed, power and endurance their
ancestors possessed.
It is
believed that most terrier breeds originated in Great Britain and Ireland.
Below you will find information and links of interest for the various terrier breeds I have been involved with: the Rat Terrier (Rattie), American Hairless Terrier (AHT) , the Stafforshire Bull Terrier (Staffy), and the Toy Fox Terrier (TFT).
