My love of animals began as a youth in 4-H. I raised and showed rabbits, chickens, goats and dogs. I became a 4-H leader when I became a mother. Around 1990 I became involved in the Rat Terrier breed where I made wonderful friends all over the country who shared my love of the breed. Along with a few friends, we embarked on the process of AKC and UKC breed recognition. I am honored to have been so actively involved and part of the Rat Terrier's breed recognition, popularity and development. This has been an amazing journey in which I have made lasting friendships and learned so much more than I ever could have imagined.
I have been the founder and officer in numerous dog breed clubs, organized and attended various pet expos, fun matches, playdays, terrier races and parades to showcase the Rat Terrier. My dogs have been featured in magazines, calendars and newspapers. Through my involvement in the dog world, I am now a UKC Event Manager, UKC Terrier Race and Junior Showmanship Judge. I enjoy promoting responsible dog events and programs, especially those that include children.
My grand children have been part of my journey and share my passion for "all things terrier". They have personally trained and shown dogs in various conformation and performance events. I know they learn valuable life lessons of responsibility in caring for a dog that will be invaluable for their lives as adults. I enjoying sharing my "passion" with my grand children and hope they too can share this journey with their loved ones and continue Roger Cara's philosophy: "dogs are not my whole life but they do make my life whole".
I know the value of canine companionship and promote placing puppies and dogs in homes of those who have a need for a service, emotional or therapy dog. Seniors, adults and children who have emotional, mental or disability issues, benefit from the unconditional love and support of a canine companion; as dogs enhance the quaility of life for those who face daily struggles.
